What Our Users Say

‘I loved this tool. I got constructive criticism from peers, and when I read over my own story, I agreed with them!’ Grade 8 Scholar User

Scholar is the product of three years of intensive research and development at the University of Illinois and Common Ground, supported by major grants from the Institute of Educational Sciences, US Department of Education. Standing behind that is a decade of experience in web-based knowledge software development and three decades of educational research.

Laying New Foundations for Education

Scholar is built on a unique depth of research and thinking about ways to transform student learning. This is outlined in two foundational texts from Mary Kalantzis and Bill Cope: Literacies (Cambridge UP, 2012) and New Learning: Elements of a Science of Education, 2nd edition (Cambridge UP, 2012).

Mary Kalantzis is Dean of the College of Education at the University of Illinois, and Bill Cope is a Research Professor in the Department of Educational Policy, Organization and Leadership at the University of Illinois.
